Some of us are going to be watching My Bloody Valentine next summer! Hurrah for Kate- when extra dates were announced she used her initiative and went ahead and booked tickets for us. Stupendous!

Material Issue - "Valerie Loves Me"
Was this song popular with y'all over in England, or was it strictly an American college rock favorite?

KOD - Quick as Rainbows
I probably should like Kitchens of Distinction more than I do. But other than Railwayed, Quick as Rainbows, and Drive that Fast (which are all great), their stuff doesn't grab me.

Sure, Seance was a fine album...
...but Heyday holds a special place for me. I saw this tour in a small club in Providence in 1986, then the Starfish tour at the same place in 1988, when Steve Kilbey claimed that if they had to play such a small space in another two years, they were skipping Providence.

The Fall
Every year in Bristol there is a free music festival at Ashton Court. Except for the last few years it's not been free, and this year it's £20 for a weekend ticket. Most of the last few years the line up has been pretty terrible, but this year it seems that it's the Fall headlining. Crikey! It's on July 14th/15th and day tickets are £12.
Going to see the Mary Chain again...
Guess which two Indie Pop Past people are going to be seeing these guys in September.
Thanks to an early warning system from Ellie we shall now be having an early birthday treat (we share the same birthday) by heading to see JAMC at the Brixton Academy on September 7th. Which is nice. I think the last time I went to the Brixton Academy was to see My Bloody Valentine, Jesus and Mary Chain, Blur and Dinosaur Jr play on the Rollercoaster tour.

Haywains - Bye Bye Boyfriend
I can't believe there's actually a video for this, although it is clear that not a lot of money was spent. However, it is a great indiepop song. There's lots of info on the band and current projects on the Haywains' myspace page.

Why exactly did you have to go out with him, anyway?
I put this on a mix tape for Tara so many years ago, being the subtle boy that I am. Naturally, her then-current boyfriend was in the car when she played the tape.

MBV- Soon
My all time favourite band of all time ever x 20000000000 (when my all time favourite band isn't being JAMC or Sonic Youth) I still have a My Bloody Valentine poster on my bedroom wall, i'm still secretly hoping for the new record to come out...
here's another very fond memory that i'm so pleased to have tracked down on YouTube- it's a feature about Creation Records, from back when they were great, on SnubTV, my absolute favourite tv program, and one that is very much missed, even over 15 years later.

Sometimes Always
Had to post another Jesus and Mary Chain video, this time the one with Hope Sandoval from Mazzy Star. In 1994 I was still obsessed with JAMC and totally fell in love with this song. I went to see their tour that year after buying a ticket for April and my French teacher.
Jim Reid and Hope Sandoval were the biggest power couple in my universe in the 90's. Move over Beyonce and Jay-Z.

Sexuality
The first gig I ever went to was Billy Bragg, supported by Michelle Shocked and The BeatNigs. I went with my Dad and there was a boy from school sat in the row in front of me. Dreamy.

Keeping in touch with our indie pop pasts
ooh can someone please add weddoes you should always keep in touch with your friends because it seems fairly apposite but i dont know how to do the technical stuff
i think the sentiments of the song reflect not just friends but indie pop pasts too- if that makes any sense at all

Sorry For Laughing
Wow, I loved/love this song! I don't quite know what's going on with the goo but oh well. Videos were weird back then.
Pull the wires from the wall
Ok so these are all a bit recent, but i'm trying to avoid making the bed and searching for videos from the past is more fun than building a bed.
Mogwai
Mogwai were the first band to come along in a long time that gave me butterflies in the tummy again. I haven't listened to them for a while, but just found this and i've got butterflies back again. I remember playing this really really loud when I worked in the record shop with Duncan. Mogwai were responsible for much of my bad behaviour in my mid twenties, they were responsible for my sister hooking up with her best ever boyfriend, they were responsible for me and Yuko going to Glasgow for no other reason than to visit the 13th note club. I got in so many places for free in those days, I felt like indie pop royalty, but really I was just a fat girl who talked about making zines and worked for a record company. I never thought I was a groupie, I always thought it was all about the music (and the beer), but maybe I was actually really annoying back then.
Ok so there's got to be some new music around that will make me feel like this again. I can't be totally stuck in the past can I?
I went on a You Tube posting frenzy over on Livejournal yesterday, seems like a lot of my friends over there have similar late 80s/early 90s musical pasts, with a fondness for The Wedding Present and Jesus and Mary Chain ranking pretty high on the list. I said 'we should set up a blog just for posting videos on' and some people said 'that's a good idea' . So I did.
If you want to post to this let me know and i'll add you to the list of people who can depress us with their fondness for The Smiths.
